The first night of the newly-revamped VHF/UHF Activity Contest seems to have gone well.
The contest is organised by the Leiston ARC (on the Suffolk coast), and participating clubs are Colchester RA, Felixstowe & District ARS, Leiston ARC and Medway ARTS.
This is a one-hour contest that takes place once a month, and the aim of the contest is to make as many contacts as possible within the hour, exchanging signal reports and the first part of the postcode. In an interesting twist, you can’t occupy a single frequency for the hour – when someone answers your “CQ Contest” call and the contact’s complete – you leave the frequency to the person you’ve spoken to, and it’s their frequency for the next contact.
To give it a try and to give away a few points, I made contact with the following stations all on 2m:
- M6OFM from ME2
- G0DZB/P from CO5
- G7DSU from ME2
- M0SSK from SS14
- 2E0SET from SS0
- M0NFE from SS0
- G1IPU from CO16
- G1KPS from SS8
- G0RNU from RM18
For more details and for contestants to submit logs, go to: www.larc.org.uk/Contest.html
The bext VHF/UHF contest is on the 22nd of March. Stick the date in your diary, and give it a go.

I listened around the two bands heard a few stations which was nice, and I will hopefully join in next month too . Glad you all did well , And enjoyed yourselves. It’s what radio is all about , xx happy hamming xx
Had fun on 6 metres last night. Worked 12 stations with my halo at 25 feet – best DX was Norwich which is a terrible direction for me. There seemed to be more activity than last month.
73, Paul.
