From Thursday the 13th of October 2016, a new net is set to start in Essex. Called “Have Your Say on DA”, this will be organised and chaired by David M1ECC. The follows on from David’s comments on Essex Ham’s forum that there should be more activity on-air in Essex.
Thanks to David for sending over the following text outlining what the new net will be all about:
“Hi everyone I am David M1ECC & I will be hosting a new net on GB3DA the Danbury repeater every Thursday evening at 8pm from the 13th October 2016 with a six week trial to start off with to see how it goes called HAVE YOUR SAY ON DA, it will involve a discussion of the many topics in the hobby of amateur radio good & bad warts all.
As I feel many things go unsaid that need saying leaving the hobby fragmented and not pulling together so get your self involved in the net if you would like to get more out of the hobby then this is the place to be every Thursday evening also there will be discussions on modes of operation antenna building & setup & the best ways of going about getting on different modes / bands.
Very handy for newcomers who can seek advice on the net from more knowledgeable hams hoping also the net will network hams together with similar interests in the hobby to help them get the best from amateur radio so get off these internet forums and onto the live net and HAVE YOUR SAY ON DA”
It’d be great to get some more activity in the area, so any new 2m activity should be supported, including more nets, 2m activity events and contests. Join David from 8pm on Thursday the 13th October.

…. the best of luck for Thursday David ,could be interesting .

Thanks David hoping to get some good subjects on the go and find out what people would really like to see happen in amateur radio
.. David ,great start to the “Ave your say on DA” net…. thought it could have done with a bit more coal on the fire to draw in those SWL’s … perhaps they were waiting for more radical points of view.
One good point was the need for the M6’s to be helped into the hobby after passing the exam , back in the days of steam this was the job of the clubs ,today even with social media they are still being left in need of this information and help.
Looking forward to next weeks net , a result David .
regards David G1GIL
Thanks David maybe next week call in yourself if you can
What we need is for people to call in and have there say on the net to say what they would really like to see happen only then do we stand a chance of steering the hobby in the right direction
with this net listening in does not help the net and it’s cause
Calling in and having your say does as we can’t continue to second guessing whats needed to keep the hobby alive because it’s clearly not working
Thanks for everyones support
After last nights little game some people don’t know me very well at all I have a good idea who was behind this i stopped the net as it was pointless to carry on when the other stations were being completely keyed out i spoke out in anger as i’m not going to tollerate these silly games in the hobby anymore
msg goes out to whoever it applies too
Have a nice day everyone
David
I have decided not to continue the net which is a shame for those who would have benefit from it.
It seems to me some did not like the fact i had a sucessful net and did not want to be out done by it
it’s a shame the hobby has lost it’s way I will continue to enjoy the hobby nothing will push me away from amateur radio for those who did enjoy my net thank you
For those interested you can catch up with me on my Facebook page M1ECC Amateur Radio Station
click like I will be happy to help out from there

David,
Don’t let the actions of just one individual on just one net sway you. This sort of thing happens all the time, and to let that one person force you off 2 metres means everyone loses out. Clearly there’s a need for this (and other) nets, so keep it going.
The Monday Night Net has been the victim of a number of attacks and unwanted attention, which has resulted in the need to keep audio recordings and read out a disclaimer. Despite this, I’ve kept it going for several years, and it’s still going strong.
Why not run the net for the planned six week trial and then decide?
Pete
Because i’m not prepared to be made a fool of a second time this was a setup and i have a pretty good idea who was behind it i’m far from stupid I notice more than i let on I started the net as
It clearly shows to me the hobby is being promoted in the wrong direction for people to make so much effort on air to try to destroy amateur radio it goes against what the hobby stands for & it’s purpose
Amateur radio is not a blackbox switch & go hobby it takes skill knowledge and time served & money in some cases alot of money in perfecting your station there is a serious lack of help for newcomers and i think this is what has diluted the hobby down to cb style radio on 2m not that there is anything wrong with cb radio i also came from that route but people need to know amateur radio is different it’s not a gloryfied version of cb radio and i should not need to explain why it’s different maybe people need to think long & hard as the amount of people who don’t want me to give up this net should of supported me as clearly i’m seen as an asset to the hobby
There will always be people out there who want to spoil other people’s fun. If we all gave up and switched off every time we were keyed, 2m would be even more quiet than it is. After the promotion and positive feedback the net’s had, it’d be a shame to let them win.
Pete
Don’t try and make me look bad for not carrying on the net I have made my choice & given my reasons and standing by my word as I am not going to be seen as weak by continuing do the net without respect & support just to have it happen time and time again the question needed to be asked really is
THIS The hobby is being promoted in the wrong direction for people to make so much effort on air to try to destroy amateur radio this need addressing and addressing fast what has allowed this to happen maybe the lack of support available
Hi David. Read it again… I wasn’t trying to make you look bad – I was supporting you!
Promotion – Fully agree… this is a significant problem for the hobby – not enough people know about it, and retaining newcomers once they’re in, is a challenge. There’s been lots of discussion about how to get around this, but not a lot of answers. We’re set for some negative PR for the hobby this week – a documentary about someone who lives next door to an amateur.
Can you check your emails?
Pete
Thats all we need not negative PR & a documentary about someone who lives next door to an amateur.
