A big thanks to everyone who’s supported Essex Ham of late. Essex Ham has now been running for over 2 and a half years, helping to promote amateur radio in Essex, and the last few months have been very busy – we’ve produced lots of new pages, released new videos to help promote the hobby, launched a series of getting started guides, held a talk on local amateur radio and created our new members section. The Monday Night Net continues to keep Essex Hams chatting, and thanks to Charlie M0PZT, we now have our first application, EssexPSK.
We’ve also seen that some of the work we’ve been doing has generated some promotion for amateur radio in Essex too, and we’d like to thank the following publications for the promotion, as well as the Essex Hams that contacted the various sites, podcasts and newsletters to let them know what radio amateurs in Essex have been up to:
- Radcom: Three articles in the January 2014 edition – Mention of our Kempton Radio Rally video, Charlie M0PZT’s EssexPSK application and a letter from Pete M0PSX about training and support for newcomers to the hobby
- Practical Wireless: Two mentions in January 2014’s issue, mentioning Kelly’s review of the Kempton Park Rally, and our interview with Gadget Show presenter Jason Bradbury about amateur radio
- Southgate Amateur Radio News: A top site that often features news about amateur radio in Essex. Features have including Kempton Park, FunCube-1, EssexPSK, Jason Bradbury and our new Getting Started Guides
- ICQ Podcast: The December 1st podcast reports on the EssexPSK application, written for Essex Ham by Charlie M0PZT
- Amsat UK News: Covered our reception on Day One of the FUNcube-1 satellite
- Icom Ham Life: The UK news service from Icom reported on our coverage of Kempton Rally
- Ham Nation Podcast: Kelly’s report on the Kempton Rally was featured in Bob Heil K9EID’s International amateur radio podcast – Check out Ham Nation Show 27
- GB2RS News Broadcast: We also got a mention the RSGB’s news broadcast, for our interview with TV presenter Jason Bradbury
- RSGB Facebook Group: Thanks to Joel for letting us know that two of our “how to get started” videos have recently been featured, attracting some positive feedback

Best of all, we’ve had the support of amateurs in Essex – who’ve been joining our regular Monday Night Net, re-tweeting our messages, liking us on Facebook and spreading the word. We have a couple of exciting ventures planned for 2014, and once again, we’d like to thank you for your support.
Next up for us, is the work that we’re doing with the Chelmsford Amateur Radio Society to bring Essex a new series of regular “Skills Workshops”, which we’re hoping will give amateurs in Essex the chance to get together, share knowledge and help to further the hobby – You can find out more, and register your interest here: www.hamskills.co.uk/cars
Thanks again for your ongoing support – it’s very much appreciated.
Well done Essex Ham. You are doing a great job of getting information about ham radio out there. We need more of this kind of stuff to get people to know about what amateurs do, to keep it alive. I will try to listen to your net, what frequency?
Thanks for the kind words David. All feedback, good or bad, welcomed. We want to make the site as useful as possible to get people into the hobby, and to stick with it.
The net happens each Monday night at 8pm local time on GB3DA, from Danbury near Chelmsford. To listen, tune to 145.725MHz
