The historic Harwich High Lighthouse was the location for some amateur radio transmissions this weekend, Sunday the 1st of May 2011.
Licensed Amateur Jim Salmon 2E0RMI obtained permission from Tony O’Neil, owner of the National Vintage Wireless & Television Museum to conduct some amateur radio transmissions from the very top of the lighthouse, Jim was able to make some excellent contacts, both on the 2 metre amateur band, and using the Internet-based EchoLink system.
The aerial used for the day was a home-made Slim-Jim antenna strapped to a 6 metre fishing pole poked through the top of the lighthouse. Whatever works, eh?
An excellent day at Harwich High Lighthouse ! Hope to do more like this in the future & will publicise any events here. All are welcome & Harwich is a perfect day out for the family as well…
