Nice thought Dorothy, but it actually means Answer promptly by wire. Just checked it out.
Hear this all the time on 40m, used to puzzle me, too. Certainly not a half-hearted "man hug" :) It's usually part of a WWFF greeting, the World Wide Flora Fauna http://wwff.winqsl.com/ We seem to have the "South Essex Marshes" as a location according to their directory.
Bit like IOTA, people activate various sites and it creates a bit of awareness for the park/area that you're in - there's an environmental feel to it. Quite a few Dutch stations go in for this big time on 40m during the warmer months.
Ah how interesting , thank you, was just curious that's all, never heard it before , and I wondered what it meant, now I know and will understand when I hear it again , come to think of it now I think he was / p so that would follow with the usage of a 44 for an activation site , xx

Hi all, never posted a chat thread before, so here goes...myself and Richard ( G7OED) were listening on 10m and there was a station in Cyprus I think, probably an ex pat as he was English , H e was giving the usual " thank you , you are 5 and 9, my name is .... Ok, 73 and 44 ..." That's my question , what does 44 , mean ? I guessed it means a " man hug " ? as women say 88 meaning hugs and kisses. So 44 would follow as half of the YL equivalent. What do you all think ?
