The Essex 4m FM Weekly Net? (29 replies)
Once we get up on 4M we can cross band :-)
I have a tait 2000 with matching tait 240v PSU ,speaker , mic , mag mount with 1/4 wave whip ..covers full 4m band , digital read out ...spare connecter to make up a 13.8v DC lead for mobile use ..fully working in vgc ...£75 ...if you need a cheap 4m set up or know someone who does ...essexsteve@icloud.com .....join in selim new 4m net on a Wednesday
To get on 4m to start out with, i recommend these:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/331966833435
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/230635532970
OR even better....
Sorry tried 4 antennas no luck. Will try again next time. Did listen though.
A reminder that the net will be on again this evening from 8pm.
I will be running the net on high ground in the centre of Essex. I hope to see many on!
@Selim: Wed 19th Oct: I have been listening on 70.475 FM vert pol in Colchester between 2100-2130 BST.... but regret to inform "nothing heard". However, I was handicapped by the fact I was using a 2 metre beam antenna :-)
(The Colchester CRA 2m net - run by G3CO closed at 2100 ish which is why I didn't try to listen earlier)..... Hope tonight went well for you and that the trip to high ground in Essex was worth it? Where did you end up and where should I roughly aim my directional antenna next week?
Will try again next week - this time hopefully with a properly tuned 4m antenna. I have a home brew 4m Hentenna which I intend to have up and running by that time.
Good to meet you at the CARS skills night by the way - albeit briefly. The rig looked good!
Guys, you need to try and find out if the noise problems are coming within your own homes and god forbid it isn't coming from your neighbours....the band is worth going on. Please try not to be negative about it.
Yes from the top of Langdon Hills before the net, i worked a station in Haverhill, Suffolk and just about worked a station in Reading, Berks.
So i was getting out very well but i think maybe many of you who have small setups on 4m. maybe it's time to improve it?
Stations on the 4m net last night were:
M0XTA
M1ECC
M0XMT
G6WCX
M0TXL
G1OFL
G4CUQ
G4CVC
I also recorded a video of the whole net last night which will be posted onto YouTube tonight and post a link on here.
I hope to hear more than 8 stations next week! :)
Working on it. I had high hopes for the slim Jim but noise wiped it out. Might get a moxon together over the weekend but am out next Wednesday. Will keep trying. At least I got out :-)
So far tried junk box dipole (sort of works) properly made dipole (won't tune), flower pot (hopeless), mag loop ( does 6m not 4), slim Jim (noisy). Moxon on the way. I had all these troubles on 2 and got over it albeit by buying something but I'll get there in the end
Here is a link to the video i made of the whole length of the net

Hi Guys,
I am thinking about starting an Essex-Wide 4m (70MHz) FM net either on a Wednesday or Thursday evening.
Saying that, I believe something like this needs to be done to encourage existing 4m users and also gain new 4m users within Essex to come onto the 4m band, using it in general and participating in the weekly net.
Other than my proposed Weds or Thurs evenings from 8pm? Can anyone else think of a better day or time? (I can't do Tuesday or Friday evenings)
I would like all who reads this to lend me their support in my idea and give me their help and feedback.
Please let me know and I need to promote the 4m band within Essex and show it can be a shining success and spread all over the UK!
Thanks,
Selim M0XTA
