The Essex 4m FM Weekly Net? (29 replies)
One major problem is that I have no source of 4m signals that I can use to bench mark and compare my antenna efforts.
DA, DB and ER and the other 2/70/6 repeaters provide instant feedback, I can only do this on a Wednesday night at 8pm. Not helpful. I can also use hackgreen for checking 160/80/60/40 transmissions - and Andorra for 40/20m frequently works.
We need to put up a 4m beacon reflector (not a full blown repeater - something you can send a 10 second transmission into that rebroadcasts like the Skype echotest - and maybe with signal strength information added, on the same frequency) in mid essex somewhere . I am advised Ofcom will not object.
Do you have a suggestion where in Essex a 4m beacon will go?.....
Just ordered up a 3/4 wave vertical antenna from Radiozing off ebay, cost £57:50 including P&P and should be with me on Monday or Tuesday. When it comes, it will be going onto a 5mtr pole on the balcony to replace the small dipole i already have up and hopefully improve my signals both ways. I might even be able to join in on the nets.
Up early this morning so knocked this up from bits from B&Q. For about a tenner. SWR 1.5:1 off the bat and QSO into Basildon with G0UCH first call. 2 x 20mm conduit, 4 elbows, 4m of wire and a bit of terminal block. Google 4M Moxon and click 70mhz.com for the plans. Damn! Essex ham won't let me upload the pix. Pete. Help!

Sadly I have work things on Wednesday and Thursday so the shiny new moxon will have to wait till next week. I think I have found my favourite diy antenna. I realised that my problem was not making antennas but mounting them. The moxon seems OK just taped to the pole.
A reminder that the net will be on again this evening from 8pm.
I will be running the net on high ground in the centre of Essex. I hope to hear many on!
Listening here QTH Benfleet. Just caught a G7??? and M0??? (probally G7OED & M0LMR?) pop out above the noise, so quick could not get full Callsigns. Phonetics would help. Will try better aerial next week. Alan G0TUD with FT-847.

I would like to say thank you to all stations who have participated in my Essex 4M net in the last 2 months. I'm very grateful for your support!
The net is now on break for the X-mas and New Year period and it will start again on Weds 4th Jan 2017 at 8pm - 70.475 FM.

Hi Guys,
I am thinking about starting an Essex-Wide 4m (70MHz) FM net either on a Wednesday or Thursday evening.
Saying that, I believe something like this needs to be done to encourage existing 4m users and also gain new 4m users within Essex to come onto the 4m band, using it in general and participating in the weekly net.
Other than my proposed Weds or Thurs evenings from 8pm? Can anyone else think of a better day or time? (I can't do Tuesday or Friday evenings)
I would like all who reads this to lend me their support in my idea and give me their help and feedback.
Please let me know and I need to promote the 4m band within Essex and show it can be a shining success and spread all over the UK!
