CT63 TWIN COAXIAL SHOTGUN CABLE (1 reply and 1 comment)
not really, its 75ohm not 50 ohm coax
see Coaxial Cable Specifications WF100 CT100 WF65 RG6 (satcure.co.uk)
its the wrong imoedance, high loss, about 10-12db per 100 mtrs on 2mtr frequencies, if you have 100m run you will lose 90% of both your rx and tx signal in the coax!!!!, compare that to something like RG8 for same distance the loss is about 5db, so you only lose 70% so 3 times more power at your feed point on tx and rig n rx
these may seem extreme distances but most loss figures are quoted at 100m so you can compare apples with apples
always get the best coax you can afford, as it is the area you can lose signal (TX & RX) and do something about it
have a look at Coax Calculator (qsl.net) you can see how much power you can lose to get an idea then have a look at the cost of the cable on somewhere like Coax Cable | Moonraker to get an idea of the cost of your cable run for the different types
Ah, I see. That makes sense, thanks.

I've just been given several metres of CT63 Twin Coaxial shotgun cable which I gather is normally used for Sky TV.
I plan to have a go at constructing antennas. Is this stuff at all useful for ham radio? Thanks.
