Data interface recommendations (1 reply)
In the end, I ended up using a USB sound card I already had, and a separate data interface: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/371145101262 along with a CAT cable: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251657688449.
In hindsight, although a single box with one cable would simplify wiring and be nice and tidy, it's good to be able to mix and match radios and computers :)

Hi all,
I've been reading over Pete's guide to data modes (https://www.essexham.co.uk/how-to-get-started-with-data-modes) but have never managed to get involved without a decent interface to my FT-857. Anyone have any recommendations for data mode interface boxes?
Specifically, I'm looking at CAT control + USB audio devices. Also interested in any neat TNCs that do packet encoding in hardware for APRS, but that's probably another topic!
Now for the curve ball, my last Windows computer ran XP and sits gathering dust — I'm using a MacBook Air full time these days, so I need something which will...
- Work on a Mac/OSX, or, a Raspberry Pi (ARM+Debian)
- Has [ideally] hardware isolation for PTT/data (I've blown a cheap CAT cable before on TX)
- Contains a USB audio device/sound card (neither the Air nor Pi have their own line input)
- USB powered / one cable
- Hardware level controls
The DigiMaster Pro3 does it all (http://www.g4zlp.co.uk/unified/DigiMaster_ProThree.htm) but comes in at £125... Anyone tried it?
Cheers,
