Diamond X50 Optimal Height (1 reply and 3 comments)
Hi Wingnut,
Congrats on the pass, I too just got mine and was considering the X50.
I went for the V2000 in the end and use mine on a 10 foot mast bolted at the side of my house at roof level. It just seems to peep over the top of the roof and I'm not sure it is really quite high enough.
So I'd say, if you could get above the peak of the roof it would work pretty well, so long as you're not in a crater of course :-)
The obvious answer I think really is going to be, get it as high as you possibly (sensibly) can.
Good luck.
Daz.
Cheers for the info mate
Currently I’ve got a sirio 827 mounted 5 metres off the ground (to the antenna connection) and if you know how big they are it towers above the peak of my roof, my only concern with that would be is the 827 is 6.7m and the x50 is 1.7m so to achieve the same top height I’d need a 10m pole all told
Top should be tip
yep, 2m antenna get them as high as safely possible
base of mine is about 1-2 foot below roof ridge, but i am behind a small hill to GB3DA, i can now hit it ok from sheppey, maidstone, hernebay and medway are great
just remember the highest point will be most at risk of a lightning strike, all be it rare

Hello All
ive recently passed my Foundation level and have decided that the Diamond X50 best suits my current needs, i do however have one question
what is the optimal height for this antenna?
