Mobile Antenna with a Handheld (1 reply and 1 comment)
i would start with the adapter, check connections both sides are tight, if you have something like a nanoVNA check the antenna with that with the adapter inline
i assume the HH is a sma connector and the antenna PL239, if so i have had issues with a similar adapter on my baofeng (1 out of a pack of 4 was bad for me), if you have another adapter try it
I think it's either the adaptor or the connection on the radio (rx was on a Baofeng) - as I also tried a tactical whip on the Baofeng yesterday and that also had zero performance next to the stock antenna.
I also had the SG7500A working great connected into the back of my new RT-95 mobile unit and picked my little Yaesu FT-4XE up from 10 miles away through the Kent countryside.
Yaesu FT-4XE was just placed on the window sill of the 4th floor sending out some SSTV on demand via mic input from my laptop via VNC

Hi everyone,
Was doing some range testing with both my Yaesu handheld on stock antenna and also via adaptor to one of these (on a mag mount in the centre of the car roof) on 144.700;

I was expecting the mobile antenna to work much better but it was terrible by comparison.
Is this normal or does it point towards a faulty antenna/connection somewhere?
