RSGB video to demonstrate how to use the EMF calculator spreadsheet (5 replies)
I found this video & the spreadsheet very useful indeed, after a lively discussion at the weekend with fellow amateurs, I was left feeling a bit deflated, but then having set myself a mission to research and learn the effects of the newly implemented requirements for compliance and my proposed EFHW.
Having read many documents, watched this video & downloaded the spreadsheet, I then proceeded to model and evaluate my antenna and its location. I found that I could prove and document compliance across all bands up to 100W (not that I'll be getting to those power levels anytime soon).
So in a nutshell it was a great exercise to carry out, and yes I learnt a lot :-)
if you can do that then have a look at enrolling in the GM6DX free online intermediate course and go for your intermediate license
the step up from foundation to intermediate is not massive, just same subjects in more detail, so i suggest you consider it while your foundation exam theory is still relatively fresh in your mind
if you liked looking into antennas and propagation have a look at WSPR, its part of WSJT-x the free program used for FT8 etc digital modes, you can run it, see where in the world you get and it will let you see the best times to try contacts on FT8 etc to various countries, especially on HF
look at wsprnet.org for more information
as a M7 you are pretty much classed as compliant as covered by the under 10w exemption, but it does provide some insight into antennas and EMF.
it also makes you think a little more about where you site your antenna in relation to property boundaries and where people in your house may be when you transmit, neither of which are a bad thing in my mind
well done for passing your exam and enjoy the world of amateur radio

Hi Pete,
Yes I have already signed up for Billy's (GM6DX) Intermediate course and I'm a fair way into it, I am using this with the Intermediate Manual & the Exam Secrets Book, to add to this I have also signed up for OARC's course, which starts on Monday, my aim has been to get to Intermediate reasonably quickly.
This is why I took an interest in the EMF Compliance, as I knew that I would be pretty much compliant as a M7 and in most cases I would naturally comply because I would be below 10W EIRP, but as am Intermediate, that could become questionable, so my quest to calculate the results.
BTW, it was thanks to your Foundation Course and the relevant manual that I have got this far, so again a big thumbs up from me.

wrong pete chris :)
i am peter M0PWX, pete who runs the course and this site is M0PSX :)
good to hear you are progressing well, i only did foundation (with pete's course) last october, intermediate november and full end of feb this year , but i do have a background in electronics, computers and radio, so first 2 exams were not an issue for me, if you look me up on QRZ you will see
Full is quiet electronic theory heavy, as a well as a lot of licensing, hence my longer time
good luck with the exam and hope to hear you on the air, i work mainly digital modes, FT8, FT4, WSPR etc
trying to learn morse at the moment :(
