dyslexia and morse code foundation practical (10 replies)
Pmant, don't worry about it. The Morse code requirements are for you to experience Morse code. There is no requirement to learn Morse or be in anyway proficient in it. It is not the old RAE Morse test. My xyl passed first time and she is dyslexic and I know plenty of others who are similar. IMHO there are probably more in the hobby now who have no Morse understanding than those that do. Good luck in getting your licence Pete
As Peter says, it's just to experience it. Take a look at our video that shows what's involved: https://www.essexham.co.uk/train/morse-practical/
Hi, as a amateur with serve dyslexia it is nothing to worry about. you do not have to do it fast. I would however let your training team know so they can help you better with the course. I been licenced over 3 years and still can not do morse
Ta, my instructer has been informed he's been a great help, he doing the practical side of the foundation from his home as I can't get to the club as I work evening times.
Nice to have people like them great club.
As others have said there is nothing to worry about. When it was introduced it was designed to be "impossible to fail".
There has only ever been one recorded failure in the whole of the U.K. and that was in a Trial session run at end of 2001 prior to Foundation being generally available. One of the candidates suffered from severe Tinatus but didn't tell the course organisers until he actually did the assessment. Have they known beforehand they could have used the Morse signalling by Light alternative.
Ta for all the replies they are most apreciated. Hopefully I get my practical and exam finished soon and get on air.
Ta again.
Am dyslexia, and found no problems with Morse. The only problem I found during the exam was not reading the questions correctly. And dropped at least 2 points, and my advice is to read the questions in the exam at least 2 or 3 times before putting pen to paper

How much do I need to learn of the morse code for the foundation practical as I am finding it very hard to remember the codes and i get them back to front sometimes as I have dsyelxia. I have been doing it for 2 weeks now trying to get the practical sign off.
Does anyone have any tips on how a dsyelxia person can learn morse easier.
