Moving permanently fro Scotland to England - does the call sign change? (1 reply)
Hi
As long as you are in Scotland your callsign will be MM7xxx. The second M is the Regional Secondary Locator that indicates that you are in Scotland. Whenever you are operating from England (even if you don't live there) you should identify as M7xxx, because M and G callsigns (for foundation and full licenses) do not use a RSL in England. For an Intermediate licence, in Scotland you would identify as 2M0xxx and in England as 2E0xxx, because Intermediate licence callsigns are the only ones which use the RSL in England.
I believe the use of Regional Secondary Locators is part of the foundation licence syllabus, and there will be some questions in the exam, but it's just a case of remembering a handful of letters. :-)
