Which RG213 / Ultra flex 7 or 10? (1 reply)
it depends on how long your cable run and the bands you will be running on,
if you have a 5mtr run then you can use virtually any 50 ohm coax regardless of band as even the worst coax loses will be peanuts,
if you have a 100ft / 30mtr run and work 2mtr/70cm then it is the best coax you can afford to minimise loses
looking at the stats for 2mtr
rg213 loses are 2.8db / 100 feet (you will lose about 40% of your power in your cable)
ultraflex7 loses are 2.1db / 100 feet (you will lose about 30% of your power in your cable)
looking at the stats for 70cm
rg213 loses are 4.4db / 100 feet (you will lose about 60% of your power in your cable)
ultraflex7 loses are 3.74db / 100 feet (you will lose about 50% of your power in your cable)
RG213 is about £1.30/m, Ultraflex7 is about £1.60/m
is the extra 10% power reaching the antenna worth the extra 30p / mtr ? only you can decide depending on bands you work, length of cable run and any budget you have

Hi Guys, First I must apologize for asking such a basic question, I hope to be getting my first callsign soon, so I have a rig, antenna, PSU, headphones/mic log software, Just waiting on the steel for my mast/s, Talking to a ham shop they pointed me towards Ulyta Flex 7 or 10 in please of RG213, I would of paid for the Rg213 but the spec looks much better on the U-flex but is it worth it?
I perchest a Dimond X30 base antenna, but a mate said I should have gone for the x300 (he is a smartass-you know the type), as I am about to set up my station this is the easy time to change my mind about this.!
It looks much easier to put up!
Thanks I look forward to your comments & guidance, words of wisdom
David.
