This weekend promises to be a very busy weekend for amateur radio in and around the Essex area. If you have time to go out and play radio, here’s a reminder of what’s on:
Saturday 21st June
Summer Solstice, Galleywood, nr Chelmsford
CARS will be active for most of the daylight hours celebrating the Summer Solstice – the longest day. They will be active on multiple bands with multiple modes all day. Everyone’s welcome to attend, and the event organiser Charlie M0PZT aims to be onsite from 6am until late. A great opportunity to learn about portable ops, and to work using the special event callsign GB1JSS.

All Saints Fete, Chelmsford
Jim 2E0RMI and Pete M0PSX from Essex Ham will be promoting the amateur radio hobby at the All Saints Church Fete in Springfield, from 2pm to 4pm

Thurrock Acorns at RSGB Rainham Marshes
Join the Thurrock Acorns Amateur Radio Club (TAARC) for their Big Weekend Sleepover at the RSPB Nature Reserve at Rainham Marshes. Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd of June.
The club will be operating using the callsign GB6BWS (Big Weekend Sleepover), and plan to operate HF and 2m/70cms simultaneously both on data and phone.
All are welcome to visit, and enjoy the fantastic reserve. Note that a £3 admission fee applies to the wildlife centre (free to RSPB members)

Harlow Museum On The Air

SEARS at Bay Museum on Canvey
For International Museums on the Air, the callsign GB2BM will be active from the Bay Museum. The event is also to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the two B17s that crashed over Canvey Point in 1944.

Essex RAYNET Wilderness Foundation Sponsored Walk
For information – Essex RAYNET will be deployed to provide safety communications at the Wilderness Charity Walk on Sunday 22nd June. The event will start and finish at the Chatham Green, north of Chelmsford. Good luck to all taking part.
