The event is organised by the Thurrock Acorns ARC, with the aim of getting some more local activity between 144 and 146MHz.
The activity starts between 1pm and 5pm, and TAARC reports that if all goes to plan, the following modes will be active: FM, SSB, CW and SSTV.
Members of Essex Ham will be active on Saturday in support of the event, and we’d ask everyone reading this to join in and get active on 2m this Saturday.

Hello everybody
Assuming everything goes to plan, I will active once again throughout the activity afternoon whilst parked near the top of Firle Beacon. This is a Marilyn near the East Sussex Coast, located between Lewes to the north-west and Eastbourne to the south-east. The car park is close to the top of the hill and is approximately 200 meters above sea level. There is a good take-off towards the north and towards Essex.
I plan to arrive before the 1300 start. Whilst I am eating my lunch, I plan to transmit some WSPR. I will also transmit APRS from up there periodically, so people can see exactly where I am.
The locator is JO00BU and the WAB square is TQ40.
I will be vertically polarised with the usual 7/8ths whip on top of my car. It is usually far too windy up there for me to erect a Yagi on my own, let alone one that will stay put while I’m using it! I will probably use my Icom-IC7100 and various handhelds, with power around 25 Watts at the back of the Icom.
I plan to TX/RX some or all of the following at some stage during the afternoon:
QRS CW (144.050), SSB (144.300), WSPR (144.489), SSTV (144.500), C4FM / DSTAR simplex (144.6125), APRS (144.800), FM (145.500) and repeaters (GB3DA on 145.725 or failing that GB3KN on 145.700.)
I will also have a 4 meter whip antenna to hand, just in case I get a chance to work GB4MTR on 70MHz.
Hope to hear you… or better still work you!

Hi Edmund,
Great. I’ll keep an ear out for you. Nice to hear you on the ICQ Podcast, by the way.
