To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the flight of Apollo 11, Essex Ham will be active this weekend from Galleywood Common (Horse & Groom location).
Apologies for the late notice, but we have been watching the weather closely to decide on the best way forward.
Saturday 20th July
Eagle started its journey to the lunar surface on the afternoon of the 20th of July 1969, and we ran a field day to commemorate the descent and touchdown, from our preferred location of Galletywood Common. WX conditions predicted less than ideal conditions for vertical poles – see the screen grab to the right, but the WX held out/
We’ll update the page with images shortly, but in summary we gathered at Galleywood in the early afternoon, for three reasons:
- To activate GB5AML
- To track two High Altitude Balloons being launched by a school in Kent, and
- To support of the Essex 2m Activity Day.

Sunday 21st July
We may be out again on Sunday, but it’s not yet confimed. Please keep an eye on this page, and on Essex Ham’s Twitter feed for updates.
Weekend of 27/28th July
There is a possibility of another field event next week (sticking with the Apollo theme), if the WX rules out this weekend, and if there’s demand.
We hope you’ll be up for joining us to support 50 years of Man’s greatest achievement.
