The 28th of March 1964 marked an important day for British radio – the launch of Radio Caroline, and the start of the offshore radio revolution. To mark this important anniversary, an offshore radio event will be taking place at Walton-on-the Naze, close to where the original Radio Caroline ship was located.
The event starts at 10:30am on Friday the 28th of March 2014, and includes live music, a ringing of the Radio Caroline bell, and other festivities. A small group of Essex Hams plan to activate a station from the event on the seafront at Walton-on-the-Naze. The event callsign is GB5OR – Five Decades of Offshore Radio. The station hopes to be active mostly on 40m from the Seafront Parade at Walton-on-the-Naze.

Kind Regards
