Where do you get your ham radio news? Southgate, the GB2RS news service, Essex Ham? Have you tried the world of amateur radio podcasts and online TV shows? If not, here’s three to try:
- TX Factor – A very slick 30 minute TV show released every two months – This covers the UK amateur radio scene and is always a great watch
- ICQ Podcast – This one’s an audio show, released every two weeks – A great mix of news and features, and well worth a listen
- Ham Nation – This is the daddy of all ham radio podcasts – Produced weekly (and live!)
Reason for the post? The Canvey Rally and the upcoming 2m Activity Dat get mentions in this month’s Ham Nation and ICQ shows.
Ham Nation Canvey Rally
If you’ve not tried Ham Nation before, it’s worth a try – the shows are long, so busy UK hams may only have time to skim through the shows, but there’s often some good features – One of the show’s hosts is Bob Heil K9EID, known for selling amateur radio and broadcast microphones.
Here’s a look at some of what’s in Ham Nation Show 185:
- 21 mins: News – Including Heard Island activation
- 26 mins: The Solar Weather Forecast
- 33 mins: Building a field strength meter inside a voltmeter

ICQ Podcast Promote the Activity Day
Thanks to the guys at ICQ Podcast for the two mentions this month – In their show for the 22nd of February, the Thurrock Acorns plan for an Essex Activity Day gets a mention, and kicks off some thoughts about the general lack of activity on 2m:
