Thanks to Mike M6KEB for supplying the following information about the South Essex Amateur Radio Society’s plans for JOTA later this month.
If you’re not aware, JOTA standard for “Jamboree On The Air”, and is an annual opportunity for Scouts and Guides to communicate using amater radio (and to pick up their Communication badge). More info: JOTA at scouts.org
This year will be the 54th Jamboree on the Air, and the SEARS club will be operating on Canvey Island on Saturday 15th October 2011, with the First Canvey Sea Scouts.
It’s planned that the team will be operating from 9am to 4:30pm from Canvey Heights (Access via Creek Road)
Members from the SEARS club, plus the First Canvey Sea Scouts will be operating using the Special Event callsign GB2CIS, and plan to work the following modes:
- VHF
- HF
- CW
- PSK31
- SSTV.
- Echolink nodes around the world for the scouts to communicate.
If you’re in the area, come along and see JOTA in action, otherwise if you’re by a radio on the 15th or 16th of the month, keep a listen for JOTA activities on-air, and join in if you can.
