Thanks to an impressive number of people who popped up on an impromptu 2m net this evening, Saturday the 17th of October 2015.
Lisa M6KIS passed her Foundation exam a few days ago in Danbury, and I was honoured to be asked to be her first contact, firstly on 2m simplex, followed by a “short” experiment on GB3DA.
I first met Lisa at Galleywood, when she was accompanying Dean M6NSX at a field day, and subsequently at other radio events in Essex. She signed up at an SWL with Essex Ham, and with some gentle arm-twisting from Dean (and others!), Lisa took the plunge and signed up for Foundation, taking Essex Ham’s Foundation Online course for Internet revision, and the Foundation course itself with CARS.
Here’s Lisa, just after passing her exam, with some other Essex Ham candidates…
With her new callsign unused and one day old, we arranged a sked at 8:30pm and I got the number one slot in her log. We switched to DA for a test, and after 2 and a half hours, here’s what happened…

Congratulations again Lisa , glad we all helped you feel welcome, see … We don’t bite ! lol , and happy to be part of your first day as an amateur, best wishes to you, and thanks to Peter M0PSX , for running the inpromptu net, and helping you on your way xx
On reflection, I don’t think my proposal for the name of a Saturday night net was one of my better thoughts, an interesting idea but somewhat open to the wrong interpretation :-)
Enjoyed the net very much indeed.

I guess it will probably just be something like the essex ham YL net , I’d imagine. I too can’t think of a name for one either . Only thing I did think was DYLAN , Dorothy’s young lady amateurs net …. But that’s a blokes name ….quite defeating what’s it’s about lol…..no offence to any Dylan’s its a nice name….just not for a lady net xx
