Monday the 3rd of December 2012 saw another get-together on GB3DA, the local 2 metre repeater for Essex.
As with previous Monday Night Nets, it’s aimed at the new M6 licence-holders, but of course welcome to all.
The attendance list for the evening was as follows:
- M0PSX – Pete in Leigh-on-Sea, in the chair
- 2E1GUA – James in Chelmsford
- M0MMB – Mike on Canvey Island
- 2E0RMI – Jim in Chelmsford
- M6BZW – Fred in Maldon
- M6KDP – Rob in Maldon
- 2E0TNC – Tom in Tiptree
- M6ECG – Lucy in Brightlingsea
- M0WDG – Dave in Kent
- M6BPK – Jim in Hockley (vanished before having an over)
Very low attendance tonight… folk losing interest in the Monday Night Net? Should we take a break for a few weeks? Comments appreciated
The topics discussed tonight included:
- Loud music
- Two-tree island operations on Saturday the 8th of December
- Is it rude to break into a 2m simplex conversation? The consensus is “no”, but listen first to see if an interuption will be well-received or not. Listening is the trick.
- 2 metre SSB contests on Tuesday nights
Got a comment about tonight’s discussion? Please add it below:
Hi All,
Just a couple of comments, first, don’t give up on the Monday night nets, you may have had a few less involved this week, but some weeks are like that. It may be the week you decide to not have the net that would see the largest number looking for it.
The other comment is for the new license holders who were wondering if it is OK to call break on a simplex 2m contact, as was discussed on air last night, the trick is to listen and call break at an appropriate time, ie, between overs. Call break once and then wait to be called in, don’t call break after every over as that will annoy the other parties, IF you have not been acknowledged after another two or three overs then call break again, if that gets no response then it is fairly safe to assume that it is a private (well as private as you can get on amateur radio) conversation and that the parties are not going to welcome input from anyone else. Personally I welcome other amateurs into any conversation I am having on air, I have always taken the view that the more the merrier, but not everyone takes that view. Even if they won’t let you into the conversation, don’t let it put you off of calling break on other frequencies that are in use, I would hope that there will always be someone there wanting to chat.
