The Essex Ham Monday Night Net for the 14th May 2018 started at 8pm local time on GB3DA, the 2m repeater located at Danbury, near Chelmsford.
Our Monday Night Net launched back in 2011 and is still going strong. Everyone’s welcome to join, especially those who’ve recently got their licence and are looking for help with getting started in the hobby.
If you’re new to our Monday Night Net, you can find more information here: Monday Night Net
On this page, you’ll find a quick summary of who joined this week’s net, and what was discussed.
Live Chat: During the Net, we run an Internet chatroom. Go to www.essexham.co.uk/chat to get chatting during our nets – You need to create a free Essex Ham account to access our chatroom. |
Internet Feed: Not in range of the GB3DA? Several Internet feeds are available, including: Essex Ham’s Audio Feed or Essex Ham on TuneIn. |

- SOS weekend happened at the weekend – Well done Acorns
- The Royal Wedding and the “R” callsigns
- Fusion – David ECC reckons it’s the best of the bunch
- FT8 power limits (as discussed in Practical Wireless)
- Buying new radios
- It’s Skills Night next week. Not this week Dorothy – next week!
- Windmills on The Air
- Network Radio – The Martime mode?
- Co-ax two feeders next to each other (VHF and HF). Is it a problem? Likely not is the consensus
- Ingress – great and additive real-world game (the fore-runner to Pokemon Go)
- Q codes – should more of these be taught at Foundation?
- Mic shyness
- People taking their turns on nets
- Do we do enough QSOs before newcomers get their licence – or do newcomers pick up bad habits from more seasoned operators
- Where is everyone? Lack of activity on-air. What’s happened to some of the once-active hams locally?
The net wrapped at 10:25pm local time – A very busy chatroom too. Thanks to all who joined the net, either on-air, or online.
A quick reminder that participants shouldn’t be making on-air references to any QRM, not addressing anyone who doesn’t hold an amateur radio licence. Feel free to log it using the Essex Ham QRM log though. Also, in the interests of being fair to all participants, please try to keep overs to under 2 minutes, and just one over per round (it’s the thing people complain about most often!)
