Thanks Norman! All interesting stuff and plenty of food for thought here! :)
Might be worth trying to go Narrow band through DA Repeater, It should clear the Audio, If that dont work, Radio freq check.
Hi John,
Sorry, I don’t remember talking to you last week! What’s your call sign?

Glad we could help.
The March 2013 Practical Wireless (out 14th Feb) will have an article about HF Pedestrian Mobile by Roger Laphorn, G3XBM. Meanwhile check out his web site: https://sites.google.com/site/g3xbmqrp/Home/portable.
Some operators buy and use purpose built military radio back pack frames while others make a similar, but much lighter, frame with glue together household plastic water pipe, elbows and T joints. Equipment can be held in place firmly, but not permanently, using 5cm wide double-sided hook and loop tape.
Check YouTube for \radio back pack\ for more ideas.

Thanks again Norm! For me it’s about weight and trying to keep it as light as possible and what I’m trying to achieve is a lightweight set up that’s as versatile as possible. My new rucksack which is actually vintage with its external metal frame gives me the opportunity of adding an antenna to it which I’ve mounted on a mirror mount on the pack. I’m not so interested in operating this whilst on the move but once I’ve got to my location. My thinking is that now I have the little UV5 R+ I can run that through a Nagoya 774 mounted on the backpack and monitor 2m & 70cm whilst operating on HF which will be useful.
So far I’ve only tested this set up with my 20m mobile whip which works fine as long as I use a steel
tape measured out to 5m to act as the counterpoise. For 2m I’m guessing that a 2m counterpoise will be the best bet?
I like the idea of these lightweight pvc pipe frames though … another project methinks! :)
Im looking forward to the artical on pedestrian mobile. :)
