The South Essex Amateur Radio Society is operating from the Rayleigh Windmill today (Sat 14 May 2011) as part of Windmills On The Air.
The club, based in Canvey, is out for the first field event of the year, and is operating on HF (voice, CW and PSK31 data), as well as on VHF.
Locally, you’ll find them operating on the 2 metre band under the callsign GB3RW on 145.225MHz and on the calling channel 145.500MHz.
I popped down to see what the guys were up to, and it looked like although HF conditions weren’t good, the team were making lots of good QSOs (conversations) on the 2 metre VHF band.
