The Chelmsford Amateur Radio Society supported the RNLI’s fundraising event, the SOS Radio Week, by operating on Saturday the 25th and Sunday the 26th of January 2014 from the Marconi Sailing Club in Steeple
Situated on the bank of the River Blackwater, the Marconi Sailing Club is a great venue to operate, and the CARS team worked on a mix of bands including 160m, 80m, 40m, 20m, 15m, 12m, and 2m, as well as Echolink . The club was operating using the callsign GX0MWT, Marconi Wireless Telegraphy.
Here is a short video montage of the two day event:
A good collection of CARS members turned up for the two days of operation, including: John G1UZD, James 2E1GUA, Peter G3SUY, Kristian 2E0SSX, Rob M0KCP, Oliver M0WAG, David G3SVI, Myra M0MYR, Chris G0IPU, Geoff G3EDM, Colin G0TRM, John G8DET, Pete M0PSX and others.
Peter G3SUY worked from his car on both days, and was operating on top band and 80m, using an impressive kite antenna – especially brave on the second day, due to the grim weather. See the photo gallery at the bottom of the page for more photos.
Well done to the team at CARS for taking part in this event and helping to support the work of the RNLI, the UK’s lifeboat service. Thanks to James 2E1GUA for organising the event, and for the hospitality received by the staff at the Marconi Sailing Club.
