CARS has today announced its plans for a Skills Night this coming Monday, the 18th of September. Here’s a copy of the announcement sent out to CARS’ mailing list:
Event Details (from CARS):
Monday evening, 7pm Sept 18th 2017, is Essex Skills Night. – But with a new slant…
This autumn sees Skills return for an experimental 3-month period – that depends on you! Amateur Radio Skills Sessions (or Workshops) as they were first called, started in January 2014 with a major aim to carry on where formal training ended. Its popularity over the past four years means that the recipe is certainly appreciated, but nowadays mainly for an experienced audience. Results from the March 2017 online survey has also provided some food for thought, so following a break over the summer we have a couple of new recipes to both ease the organisational burden and to freshen up the offerings… Starting Monday Sept-18 it will be purely up to you, like all attendees, to offer something new – whilst still having a good time! What we are looking for…
What we are not…
So future content and success is 100% down to you! (Otherwise it will be socialising without helpful radio content) If you want a table for a demo do email us beforehand and Peter M0PSX will do his best to fit you in – but please be certain, as we only have so many tables Meanwhile our thoughts on addressing other skills/training gaps may well see a whole new series of sessions that complement the very successful online Foundation course, so there are more regular opportunities for practicals and exams in 2018 – more on that in due course! As always, various members of CARS, Essex RAYNET, Essex Repeater Group, Essex CW Club and Essex Ham will be on hand to help with questions as well as volunteers in the kitchen doing the tea/coffee and nibbles. For more details, see the Skills Night page on the CARS Website |
The September 2017 will not be in the traditional Skills Night format. There have been lengthy discussions with the CARS committee and CARS Training Team about the future of the event, and whether the event should be about Skills Development and Training, or an opportunity to socialise and look at attendee show-and-tell. CARS has elected to try the above format for the next three months, and they’d appreciate your feedback on the event.
Confirmed Activities so far:
