Thurrock Acorn Amateur Radio Club (TAARC) was invited to join in at the community event held at the West Thurrock Memorial Park on Saturday the 30th of August 2014.
The objective of the day was to promote the various different clubs and organisations that are running in the area so that the people in West Thurrock can talk to representatives from them and maybe join. The event was free to attendm and was a great opportunity to demonstrate the hobby and explain the world of amateur radio to the event’s visitors.
The weather was very favourable with the sun shining most of the day which helped to make the day the success it was. TAARC had two stations running, showing what could be achieved from a vehicle parked in a field. A 2m station was set up for local contacts which included speaking to people in Basildon, Tilbury and someone who was mobile on a motorbike that was passing through the borough. The second station (HF) contacted stations in the UK, Germany and Austria.
The following photo shows the mayor talking to TAARC member Stella Nye G0EKP, who was operating the station that was talking to people in Europe.
TAARC launched in 2014 and meets monthly in Grays. For more details on the Thurrock Acorns Amateur Radio Club, visit their site at www.taarc.co.uk
