A quick look at some of the amateur radio activities planned for this coming weekend, the 2nd and 3rd of August 2014…
World War I Commemoration
This month marks the 100th anniversary of the UK entering World War I. British Prime Minister H. H. Asquith declared war on the German Empire on 4 August 1914. Two clubs in Essex will be operating special event stations over the weekend to commemorate the historic events of August 2014.
On Sunday the 3rd of August, the South Essex Amateur Radio Society (SEARS) will be operating to commemorate the UK entering WWI. The club will be operating from the Bay Museum on Canvey Island using the callsign GB2BM. Update: SEARS at Bay Museum 03 August.
On Sunday the 3rd of August, the Chelmsford Amateur Radio Society (CARS) will be operating stations to commemorate the UK entering WWI:
- An HF station will be active using the club’s special event callsign GB100MWT from Sandford Mill Industrial Museum. Planned times are between 10am and 5pm for CARS members. Members of the public may attend between 2pm to 5pm.
- Some of the CARS team will be at Oaklands Museum too, to help promote the hobby
We’re sure the clubs would be very pleased to welcome visits from other amateurs and any interested parties, so you may want to come along to support one of the events. Alternatively, try to work one of the stations, get in their logs, and commemorate this important milestone in Britain’s history.
LEFARS Get-together
This Saturday and Sunday, the Loughton & Epping Forest Amateur Radio Society will be holding their Summer Get-Together, Rainbow and Dove, Hastingwood. Sorry, but we have more additional information on this event.
Weekend Training in Colchester
We’d also like to wish good luck to the candidates for the weekend’s fast-track Foundation Training Course being held by the Colchester Radio Amateurs.
